Marcquelle is Dancing in the Aisles
A street dancer and TV actor is taking train-ing for a world record attempt a bit too literally.
Marcquelle Ward, who was on the winning team of BBC’s Dance X show and went on to star in ITV1 drama Britannia High, danced in the aisle of a First TransPennine Express from Manchester Airport to Blackpool North. The stunt was to raise awareness of his Bank Holiday Monday attempt in aid of the NSPCC.
The 25-year-old performed cabin crew style to a carriage of commuters, teaching them the simple steps needed to join what he hopes will be the largest street dance class in the world.
Thousands of young people are expected to flock to Blackpool on Monday 25 May in an attempt to set the official world record for the largest dance class.
Marcquelle said: “I have received a lot of attention recently for my singing, dancing and acting. This is my chance to give something back to those who have supported me.
“Fans are always asking me when I’m going to take a masterclass, so this will be a chance for everyone to get involved. Blackpool is a great fun place with a good atmosphere. It will be an amazing day.”
David Crocker, Marketing Manager for First TransPennine Express said: “Marcquelle took advantage of the spacious trains to demonstrate his moves to commuters and was delighted to arrive in Blackpool only an hour and a quarter after he left Manchester.
“With fares starting from as little as £5 from Manchester to Blackpool, today will hopefully attract more people to travel to out2dance by train”.
Claire Turner, organiser of out2dance festival for visitBlackpool said: “We’re expecting up to three
thousand people to take part in our Bank Holiday record attempt and hopefully we’ve recruited even more today.”
Marcquelle’s street dance masterclass is part of the new four-day out2dance festival taking place in Blackpool from May 22-25.
The totally free festival will see world-class acts performing an eclectic mix of dance styles across the town.
There will be a chance to watch and join in with salsa, Bollywood, line dancing, bellydancing, ballroom and much more.
Other major names appearing include stars of TV’s Strictly Come Dancing and Britain’s Got Talent.
The world record attempt for the largest street dance class will take place at 11am by the main festival stage on Princess Parade. Dancers of all abilities are invited to register from 9am, when they will be asked to make a minimum donation of 50p to the NSPCC.
